A Jamesville, New York nursing home has been fined for failing to protect residents from sexual abuse by other residents. The New York State Health Department conducts inspections every 9 to 15 months at each nursing home across the state and follows up to make sure any problems are corrected. The Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville has had 97 documented complaints since March 2013. Nearly half of the cases were reported by staff, but that’s not enough to avoid punishment.
An April 2016 inspection found the “administration failed to ensure staff recognized and reported repeated aggressive and sexually abusive behaviors of two residents towards others.” Two of the incidents involve female residents assaulted while in their beds.
