Central New York Nursing Home Fined Third Largest Amount By State Health Department In Last 10 Years.

According to a 2014 Cornell University study, sexually inappropriate and hostile behavior involving nursing home residents is a sizable and growing problem. The study of 10 New York nursing homes, with more than 2,000 residents, found that one in five residents were involved in at least one negative and aggressive encounter with one or more fellow residents in the previous four weeks. This is a large concern for the family members of the residents because they do not have the ability to make sure their loved ones are protected at all times. That is why if you suspect abuse, please call one of our expert Boston nursing home abuse lawyers here at our Boston, Massachusetts law firm to help guide you and your loved ones through the complicated litigation process inherent in nursing home abuse cases.

A Jamesville, New York nursing home has been fined by the State of New York for failing to protect residents from sexual abuse by other residents. A state Health Department inspection conducted this past April found that the Iroquois Nursing Home did not properly manage two male residents with histories of being aggressive and sexually abusing other residents in the dementia unit of the nursing home. The Health Department fined Iroquois $16,000 as part of a settlement agreement. This is the third largest fine imposed on an Onondaga County nursing home in the last 10 years.
