Missouri Woman Charged With Elder Abuse After Backhanding 98 Year-Old Woman.

Authorities have charged a woman from Cape Girardeau, Missouri with elder abuse after she allegedly backhanded a 98 year-old resident at a Missouri nursing home.

Sherri Sprenger, a 22 year-old licensed practical nurse at the Lutheran Home where the victim was a resident, told police that she lost her temper after the woman yelled at her, and struck the nursing home resident in the face. Sprenger expressed regret for hitting the woman so hard.

Sprenger was fired from the Lutheran Home as a result of the assault and battery, and she now faces a charge of third-degree elderly abuse and punishment of up to one year in jail and $1,000 in fines.
