John B. Satiro died from personal injuries sustained as a result of falling from a patient lift at the Sweet Brook Transitional Care and Living Center in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
The staff at the Sweet Brook nursing home was attempting to transport Satiro to another room when they dropped him from a Hoyer Patient Lift. Satiro suffered serious leg injuries and died shortly after the fall.
In May 2012, Satiro’s Estate filed a civil wrongful death lawsuit against the nursing home for the negligence of its staff in transporting Satiro and for the deficiencies in the operation of the nursing home facilities.
The nursing home neglect and abuse case is expected to be tried before a jury next year.
