Essex Care Home Nurse Fired After Ignoring Resident’s Calls For Help.

One staff member has been fired and seven more suspended after hidden cameras revealed patient neglect inside an Essex care home. Anglia Retirement Homes at the Old Deanery in Essex houses up to ninety-three elderly residents. Now families are scrambling to learn whether the eight implicated workers are the exception or the norm at the elderly care facility.

Concerns at the facility were first raised in 2012 when whistleblowers reported suspected abuse. Since then, the home has hired an independent law firm to carry out a full investigation of the home and its workers. Although eight staff members have since been suspended in light of neglect or abuse, the facility is quick to point out that there are still more than two hundred dedicated and responsible staff members left to carry on their jobs with a high standard of care.

The hidden cameras revealed widespread neglect of several residents. One woman, 98-year-old Yvonne Grant was filmed begging for help hundreds of times without any response over a three-day period. Her granddaughter had been the one to hide the cameras, and although she expected some wrongdoing, she never expected such widespread and consistent neglect.
