Heraldo Gonzalez, a 56-year-old nursing home resident at the New Gloria’s Manor Home for Adults in Queens, New York, died on February 10 from injuries he suffered after being attacked by a fellow resident.
According to reports, Gonzalez’s neighbor at the facility, 54-year-old Bienvenido Cruz, attacked Gonzalez after the two got into an argument about an unidentified subject around 3:35 PM on February 3. Authorities stated that Cruz punched Gonzalez four or five times, then slammed Gonzalez’s head against a table three times. Gonzalez’s neck was broken in the altercation, leaving him paralyzed. Gonzalez was rushed to nearby Jamaica Hospital for treatment. He died just a week later.
Cruz has been charged with assault but, now that Gonzalez has died of his injuries, authorities may upgrade his charges at his next court date on February 19.
